On behalf of the Board of Directors of Salem YMCA, I have the unique honor in presenting the Annual Report of the Salem YMCA to its members and sharing the activities during the year 2017-2018.

Our Membership
The YMCA is a people’s movement and the strength is our members. Through the YMCA members we made monumental differences in the community. Our Membership is open to all without any distinction of Caste, Colour, Creed or Gender. There are 1051 members on roll, of which 825 are Life Members and 226 are Annual Members. Our membership includes women and junior Members.
PROGRAMS
The year 2017-2018 started with new challenges and great vision and goals. God led us to accomplish our plans through our activities with human concern. This year Salem YMCA witnessed the all-round development of the Youth and Community and took the challenge of addressing the needs of the society at large. CARE (Community Action for Renewal and Education), RACE (Rehabilitation, Awareness, Counseling and Education) for the inmates of Salem Central Prison, Salem Female Sub Jail, Govt. Observation Home, WAVE (Wellbeing Activities and Value Education) for the people affected by Tsunami, working with the rural women by making them skilled, several awareness & Talent Development programs, Competitions and tournaments for youth and children and several programs for the spiritual growth are some of the major highlights of the year.
Overall Achievements
Through the Hi-Y and Uni-Y clubs, we are able to sharpen the talents, of the students and guide them to achieve their goal. Through moral stories, community games, songs and meaningful messages, we guide them to select the right path for their personal development. .
Christian Emphasis
Weekly Prayer Meeting
Every Saturdays the Youth group will gather at Salem YMCA for prayer meeting. We used to call this group as TENT (Teaching, Equipping, Nurturing, Transforming), here we share the good news by different activities, games, discussions, debate, question answers and Life stories. Since most of the participants are from Non-Christian background, we practice different methods to share the Good News indirectly. The participants are interestingly attending this program
Children Ministry Training Program Graduation
The training program for the people those who are involving in Children Ministries, came to an end with the Graduation ceremony organized on 1stApril 2017 at YMCA Hall. Pr.Senthil, Ammapet was the chief guest, he delivered a meaningful message and distributed the certificates for the trainees. The Candidates exhibited the materials prepared for the training and the guests turned around to have a look and congratulated the trainees for their real efforts. This program encouraged the trainees to precede the children ministry because this type of ministries among the children and youth are very necessary nowadays. Mr.A.James, Board Member chaired the program.
Pastors Conference 2017
Salem YMCA organized a pastor’s conference on “Contextualized Spirituality” at the Salem YMCA Mini Conference Hall on 21st September 2017. 86 Pastors from different parts of Salem have participated and benefitted out of this program. Rev.Fr.Daniel, Director, Don Bosco Care Home, Salem, Pr.Gloy Dhas, Chairman, YMCA Omalur, V.John Selvakumar, UESI Tamilnadu have been the resource persons and spoke on the theme. Rev.Benjamin, convener, Mission and Ecumenical Concerns Committee chaired the program and Rev.Rajah Daniel Stephens, Convener, Youth Work Committee has inaugurated the conference. This program really encouraged the pastors to get involved in the Social Works and taught how to face the challenges in ministry. The participants felt that many things discussed in that conference was an eye opener for them and understood the real way of doing God’s ministry as not only preaching and acting more than preaching.
YMCA / YWCA Week of Prayer and World Fellowship 2017
The World YMCA / YWCA Week of Prayer was observed by our YMCA from 12th – 18th November 2017 in the theme “Stand up, Speak up – Be the voice of voiceless”. The special programs organized during this week are as follows.
1. Inaugural Service
The Inaugural service was organized at the CSI Christ Church on 12th November 2017 at 8.30 am combined with their regular service. Rev.Fr.Vimal Dass, PRO, Periyar University, Salem was the special speaker and he delivered a message on the theme “Stand up and Speak up”. Rev.S.Miller Jayapaul, Presbyter, CSI Christ Church, Salem chaired the service. Dr.Mrs.Angeline Shakila, President of YWCA Salem, read the World YMCA / YWCA President’s message.
2. A Day with the Juvenile Children
We have celebrated the Children’s Day with the children of the observation home on 13th November 2017. We have explained the value of life with the help of Video Show, Magic Show and different Games. A special lunch was also arranged for the boys and staff members. 12 Students of observation have benefitted out of this program.
3. Annual Oratorical Contest for Rev.RajahD.Stephens Memorial Trophy
To commemorate the Children’s Day, an Oratorical Contest for Rev.RajahD.Stephens Memorial Trophy was organized on 14th November 2017 in our YMCA Hall at 10.00 am. 120 students from different schools of Salem have actively participated and given away their speaking talent in the topic “VOICE FOR THE VOICELESS” and the students those who came in first two places in each event got the awards and certificates. Cluny Matriculation H.S. School won the overall Trophy. Mr.R.Ramesh, Inspector of Matriculation Schools, Salem was the chief guest and he distributed the prizes and certificates for the winners. This program not only brought out the speaking talent of the children but made them understand the important of raising their voice for the voiceless people.
4. Cottage Prayer
The cottage prayer meeting was organized at the residence of Mrs.Geetha Kennedy, Principal, CSI Polytechnic College, Salem. Rev.D.Asir, Bethel Bible College was the guest speaker and he gave a meaningful message on the theme “I will put words in your mouth”. Mrs.Sheela Dinakaran, Professor, Govt. Arts College, Salem-8 chaired the meeting. Around 30 people participated and made use of that occasion to pray for the Voiceless People.
5. Valedictory Service
The valedictory service was organised at YWCA Salem on 17th November 2017 at 6.00 pm. Dr.Jones Ronald, Professor and HOD, Department of Nephrology, Vinayaka Missions Hi-Tech Hospital, Salem was the special speaker and he gave a message on the theme “The Power of Resistance”. Rev.C.Benjamin, Convener, Mission and Ecumenical Concern Committee, YMCA Salem chaired the meeting. Thus the Week of Prayer 2017 come to an end and it was requested the participants to pray and raise voice continuously for the voiceless people.
United Carol Service 2017
The United Carols is one of the unique activities of Salem YMCA. This year the United Carols-2017 was organized inside the YMCA campus on 1st December 2017 with different programmes by various Churches, Institutions and Organizations. Mr.A.Vijuvin IRTS, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Salem Division, Southern Railways was the chief guest and Rev.Fr.Christu Raja, Principal St.John’s National Academy and Parish Priest, St.Michael’s Church, Fairland, Salem has delivered special Christmas message. Rev.Samuel Stephens, President, YMCA chaired the programme. The programme was included carols by different Churches, Institutions, Schools and groups. It was also included quiz and prizes, and distribution of Christmas Cakes. This program really united different denomination of people to jointly celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Youth Work
Regular Programs
Youth Club: Every Tuesdays the Youth Club functions at Salem YMCA and regularly around 10 to 15 youth gathers to have different programs. Mr.Abraham, the coordinator, Mission and Youth programs is coordinating this program with the help of two German Volunteers Meike and Allissa. Different Community Games, Making Handicraft Items and thought provoking messages are the part of this Gathering
Volunteers Meet: Every month last Saturday the Volunteers gather at Salem YMCA and have different programs. We have around 25 volunteers and they will meet here, discuss on different issues and also have games and fun time. They are also continuously helping our programs being organized by the Salem YMCA inside the campus and outside.
District Level Open Fives Ball Badminton Tournament
Salem YMCA with the cooperation of Lakshmi Ammal Ball Badminton Club organized a District Level Invitation open fives Ball badminton tournament, on Sunday the 9th April 2017 in our campus. 18 teams from all over Salem District participated and exhibited their talents. Mr.Doraisamy, President, Salem District Ball Badminton Association was the chief guest and he distributed the prizes for the winners in the presence of Mr.Subramani, Secretary. This program really encouraged the upcoming players and paved a way to exhibit their talents.
Summer Camp 2017
This year the summer coaching camp courses have started on 24th April 2017 and the programs went up to 24th May 2017. Shuttle Badminton, Drawing & Painting, Chess, Table Tennis, Kick Boxing, Fencing and Computer Training were the events and 60 Students from the age 5th to 17th have participated and equipped their skills. Experts in different games and activities have handled the classes. Students have spent their leisure time very usefully by participating in this summer camps.
Special Programs for the Summer Camp Participants
Special training program on making Handicrafts, life coping skills and community games were organized for the participants of summer camp on all Saturdays during the summer camp from 24th April to 24th May 2017. The German volunteers Meike with local volunteers taught many community games and handicrafts. Through this program we made the students to understand many things like How to live disciplined life? How to obey their parents and teachers? How important to follow the rules and regulations? and much more.
Summer Camp Valedictory Function
The valedictory function of Summer Camp 2017 was organized on Wednesday, the 24th May 2017 at the YMCA Hall. Adv.Anandatheerthan, State Secretary, Hindustan Scouts and Guides was the chief guest and distributed the certificates and felicitated the participants and parents. The children and parents were very happy about the training because they felt that they could really spend their holidays very useful.
Volunteers Camp – 2017
We have organized a volunteers’ camp in the theme “Let Us Change” on Thursday the 21st September 2017 at Shalom Camp Site Yercaud to create an awareness about the volunteership and it was organized by our existing volunteers. A group of young people from USA also have participated in this camp. Rev.Rajah Daniel Stephens, Convener of Youth Work Committee has delivered the keynote address. The other session was handled by Mr.Ryan from USA. 98 People from different colleges have participated and understood the real meaning and need of volunteerism. Also it was a very good experience in organizing camps for our existing volunteers.
District Table Tennis Tournament – 2017
To encourage the table tennis players and also to make them a chance to exhibit their ability in table tennis game, Salem YMCA and Salem District Table Tennis Association jointly organized a district level Table Tennis Tournament on 23rd September 2017 at the YMCA Hall. 12 events have been conducted according to the age. The Office bearers of the Salem District Table Tennis Association were the guests and distributed the prizes and certificates for the winners. The selected players have been sent for the State level competitions. This tournament really encouraged the children and young people to come up.
Boxing and Kick Boxing Camp & Inter Club Boxing Competitions
Salem YMCA organized a Boxing and Kick Boxing Camp and Inter Club boxing competitions on 26th September 2017 at the YMCA campus. 87 Boys and 3 girls have participated in this camp and benefitted out of this camp. The winners of the competitions have been provided certificates and prizes. This camp created an awareness among the children about this art Boxing and put interest on them to join in learn this art. On behalf of Salem YMCA 8 boys and 3 girls have been selected for the National Level Selection trials to be conducted on 24th to 26th at Chennai and if selected they will perform in the National Level competitions to be organized from 21st to 23rd December at Orissa.
Inter School and College – Tamil Traditional Dance Competitions
To bring out the talents of school and college students in traditional dances and also to make awareness on Tamil Traditional Arts, Salem YMCA with the help of 7th Sense Trust organized an Inter School and College Tamil Traditional Dance competitions on 27th and 31st of October 2017 at the YMCA campus. It was included the different Tamil Cultural Dances like Baratha Natiyam, Karagattam, Thappattam, Kavadiattam, Poikal Kudiraiattam, Mayilattam, Silampattam, Kummiattam, Oilattam and Kolattam. The program was inaugurated by Mr.Shanmugavel, President of Builders Association, in the presence of Mr.Ilango from Weldon Groups. It was chaired by Mr.P.G.Manuel Stephens, Vice President. Around 170 students from different schools and colleges of Salem, Dharmapuri and Namakkal districts have actively participated and exhibited their talents. Final round of competitions and prizes distribution was held on 31st of October 2017. Salem YMCA Vice President Mr.P.G.Manuel Stephens, Treasurer Mr.S.Nelson Jayakumar, Board Members Mr.C.Gunaseelan and Mr.A.James have participated as guests and distributed the prizes and certificates for the winners. This program, as first time of its kind in Salem YMCA was very colorful and really encouraged the children and given a chance to exhibit their hidden talents.
25th State level Open Table Tennis Tournament
The Salem YMCA in co-operation with the Salem Round Table –28 organized the 25th Annual Open Table Tennis Tournament at the YMCA Hall on 4th and 5th November 2017. The Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association recognized this Tournament and more than 350 players from all over Tamil Nadu took part and given away their talents.
Prof.Dr.Y.Abraham, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Vinayaka Mission University, Salem and one of our board members has inaugurated the Tournament on 4th November 2017 in the presence of Tr.Amol Sancheti, Area Chairman, Area 7, SRT and Mrs.Nirmala Devi, District Inspector of Physical Education, Salem was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony on 5thNovember 2017. This annual event really encouraged the players to come up in various levels. SRT Members, parents, many more YMCA members and players actively participated in this programs.
District Level Open Doubles Ball Badminton Tournament
Salem YMCA organized a District Level open doubles Ball badminton tournament, on 11th and 12th November 2017 in our campus. 32 teams from all over Salem District participated and exhibited their talents. Mr.Doraisamy, President, Salem District Ball Badminton Association was the chief guest and he distributed the prizes for the winners in the presence of Mr.Subramani, Secretary. This tournament encouraged the upcoming players and paved a way to exhibit their talents.
Rev.Rajah D.Stephens memorial Shuttle Badminton Tournament
Salem YMCA organized a district level Rev.Rajah D.Stephens memorial shuttle badminton tournament on 30th December 2017 at the YMCA Campus. 22 teams from different clubs of Salem district took part in the tournament. Dr.A.Manickavasagam, Volley Ball Coach, Sports Authority of India, was the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony. Mr.N.Rajaram, Centre Incharge, Sports Authority of India was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony. Rev.Rajah Daniel Stephens, Convener, Youth Work committee chaired the function. Mr.Nelson Jeyakumar, Treasurer welcomed and felicitated the participants. Mettur team won the first prize of Rs.10,000/- and trophy, Salem team won the second prize of Rs.7,000/-.
Republic Day Annual Painting Contest 2018
Annual Painting Contest for School children is the one of the regular annual events and this year also we organized this Annual Painting Contest in a grand manner. Exactly 500 students from various schools have actively participated and given away their talents through their paintings. Students from LKG to XII standard were divided into fourteen groups and the first three places in each group have been awarded prizes and certificates. Mr.Sankar, Additional Superintendent of Salem Central Prison, was the Chief Guest distributed the prizes and certificates for the winners. All the participants have been provided participation certifictaes.
Felicitation for the Winners of State Boxing Tournament
Around 30 students are participating the Boxing Coaching classes at YMCA regularly. They have participated a State Level Tournament at Bengaluru in End of December 2017 and 12 boys from our trainees have won medals. A felicitation meeting was arranged at the YMCA on 1st Jan 2018 to encourage these boys. Mr.Ramesh Kumar, Salem Amechur Boxing Association was the chief guest and felicitated the winners and motivated other also to achieve more.
Volunteers Meet and Pongal Celebration
On January 13th we had our volunteers meet and Pongal Celebration with several programs. Around 68 volunteers participated and benefitted out of this program. The program was started with Bible Reading, followed by prayer. Lot of traditional games like Khabadi, Cock fight, Tug of war, Lemon and spoon, Pot breaking and slippery tree climbing have been organized and the volunteers enthusiastically participated in all these games. Then the winners were awarded prizes. We also cooked and served sweet Pongal. In the afternoon the General secretary explained the history of YMCA and its various programs and projects. Then the volunteers shared their experiences with YMCA, for example volleyball team and Orissa camp volunteers explained their experience. This gathering came an end with a pledge taken by all volunteers regarding following the traffic rules. Then everyone enjoyed the meals prepared by the volunteers and the program came to a successful end.
General Programs
Special Seminar
Salem YMCA organized a special seminar on the topic “Water Management”, on Tuesday the 4th April 2017 at the YMCA Hall to mark the 226th year of establishment of Salem District to create awareness on water management. Dr.V.Thirumurugan, Associate Professor, Department of Geology, Government Arts College, Salem was the special speaker and Mr.P.G.Manuel Stephens, Vice President of Salem YMCA chaired the program. Around 85 people including YMCA members and volunteers have participated and benefited out of this program. It was very informative and made the people understand the need of saving the water and different methods of managing it.
Inauguration of Skill Training Center at Kootathupatty
Since we have identified the need of starting a skill training at Kootathupatty, we found a place and set up a tailoring center to give training for the women in basic tailoring. The inauguration of the center was organized on 4thMay 2017. Ms.Marianne Clauss, Esslingen YMCA was the guest and inaugurated the center in the presence of local leaders. Mr.C.Gunaseelan, Board member participated and felicitated on behalf of Salem YMCA.
YMCA Program Centre - Ground Breaking Ceremony
The ground breaking ceremony of the Salem YMCA program Centre was organized on 16th June 2017 at the YMCA campus. We have organized a prayer meeting, Rev.Dr.Samuel D.Stephens, the president of Salem YMCA shared the good news and the objectives of the new project. He blessed and broke the ground and initiated the work. Board members and other members have participated and shared their good wishes.
Independence Day Flag Hoisting
To commemorate the India’s 71st Independence Day, the flag hoisting ceremony was organized at our YMCA campus on 15th August 2017 at 8.30 am. Rtn.P.Prabakaran, President, Rotary Club of Salem South was the chief guest and hoisted the National Flag and shared the Independence Day message in the presence of Rtn.Shivakumar, Assistant Governor. About 60 members including hostellers actively participated in this meaningful program.
Republic Day Flag Hoisting Ceremony
To commemorate the India’s 68th Republic Day, Salem YMCA organized the Flag Hoisting Ceremony on 26th January 2018 at the YMCA Campus. Mr.A.James, Board Member, YMCA Salem, and the District General Secretary(2018-2019), Rotary International District 2982 was the chief guest and hoisted the National Flag at 8.30 am and gave a special Republic day message. Our YMCA hostellers, members, students from various schools and parents actively participated in this celebration.
EXTENSION PRGRAMS
Under the effective guidance of the Convener Mr.P.G.Manuel Stephens, the extension work is going on well. The YMCAs under Salem Sub-Region are being given continuous guidance regarding their come up in registration, affiliation and programs.
Sub-Regional Volleyball Tournament.
To encourage the Sub Regional YMCAs, Salem YMCA conducted a volleyball Tournament for the YMCAs of Salem Sub Region on 28th September 2017 at the Salem YMCA Campus. 10 YMCA teams participated and exhibited their talents. Ms.Marianne from Esslingen YMCA participated as a special guest and encouraged the participants. Ayothiyapattanam YMCA lifted the winner’s trophy and Salem YMCA got the second place. The participants were very happy about this tournament and requested to conduct more programs like this.
PROJECTS
Regular programs in CARE - Community Action for Renewal and Education project, WAVE- Wellbeing Activities and Value Education, a project for the people affected by Tsunami, RACE-Rehabilitation, Awareness, Counselling, and Education, for the Central Prison, Female Prison, and Government observation home, Rural Women Empowerment project, are functioning well.
CARE – Community Action for Renewal and Education
The Computer Centres functioning at 3 different villages and tailoring units functioning at different villages are functioning well with good participation.
International Women’s Day - Special Training on ‘Handicrafts’
We have celebrated the International Women’s Day with the participants of different skill training centers functioning at different villages on 9th March 2018. About 80 women have participated and benefitted out of this program. Mrs.N.Parimala Devi, District Social Welfare Officer, Salem was the chief guest and inaugurated the Celebration and Training program. Mrs.Rebecca Stanley, Convener, Women Empowerment and Gender Concerns committee chaired the program. We have contributed 5 sewing machines to 5 poor women trained through our skill centers function in different villages. It was also included a training program on “Handicrafts” handled by Mrs,Chittukala, a specialist in handicrafts and painting. We have also distributed the certificates for the participants those who have successfully completed the training in tailoring for 6 months.
Salem Prison Welfare Project
Independence Day Celebration at Salem Central Prison
We have celebrated the Independence Day at the Salem Central Prison on 15th August 2017 at 10.00 am. It was organized in a grand manner and it was included songs with music by the prisoners, Cultural programs by our volunteers, Anderson Schools and Christopher Matric School. Also, we have organized a debate to make them understand the merits and demerits of the technology developments in the title ‘இன்றைய தொலைத்தொடர்பு சாதனங்கள் சமுதாயத்தை சீர்படுத்துகின்றனவா? சீரழிக்கின்றதா?’. The program was chaired by the superintendent Ms.Andal.
Christmas Celebration at Salem Female Prison
We have celebrated the Christmas among the inmates of Salem Female prison on 20st December 2017 at 10 am. Ms.Aandal, Superintendent, Salem Central Prison chaired the program. Different Games and Lucky draw were organised and prizes have been distributed for the inmates and staff members. It was also included cultural program by our YMCA volunteers. We have also provided Christmas cakes and mementoes for the inmates and all the staff members.
Christmas Celebration at Observation Home
We have celebrated the Christmas with the boys of the observation home, Salem on 21.12.2017 at 11.00 am. Mrs.K.Vijaya, the superintendent of observation home chaired the program. Different community games have been conducted and educated the children ‘the value of life’. It was also included a special Video show telling the real meaning of Christmas. We have also distributed Christmas cake and special lunch for the inmates and staff members.
WAVE (Wellbeing Activities and Value Education)
Welfare Project for the Tsunami affected people at Koonimedukuppam
Christmas Celebration with The Tsunami Victims (WAVE Project)
We have celebrated the Christmas with Children of YMCA Child Care Centre at Koonimedukuppam on 16th December 2017 at 5.00 pm. Different varieties of sports and games have been conducted for them and prizes were distributed for the winners. The program was included meaningful message through Video Show, cultural programs by children, distribution of prizes for the winners of the competitions and distribution of Christmas cakes. Mr.P.G.Manuel Stephens, Vice President, Mr.S.Nelson Jayakumar, Treasurer, Mr.C.Gunaseelan, Board member have participated in this program as guests and made the program more meaningful.
In this program 80 children, parents and Committee Members actively participated. Local Pastor Rev.Moses Maridass, Our YMCA General Secretary Mr.Jose, staff Mr.Abraham local panchayat President, leaders and public witnessed this program.
Legal Aid Clinic
Legal Aid Clinic is Functioning at YMCA campus. It is a joint program by the YMCA and Salem District Legal Services Authority. Advocates from Judicial Department will give free Advice and Counseling for the poor people. It is Functioning on every Fridays 5 to 7 pm. In this reported year about 35 people have benefited out of this program.
Training Programs and Coaching Centres
Shuttle Badminton Coaching Classes
We are organising Shuttle badminton coaching for the school and college students. Mr.Balaji, a trained Shuttle Badminton coach is giving regular training from Monday to Saturday, 5 to 7 pm. Around 20 children are regularly participating and equipping themselves in Shuttle Badminton.
YMCA Music School
YMCA Music School functioning inside the YMCA campus is getting good response and currently 9 students are learning music through our centre. We are organising the classes weekly two days – Wednesday and Thursday evening. Mr.Ramachandran, Music Master, Sona College is handling the classes.
German Language Classes
Every Monday and Fridays the German volunteers conducting the German language classes. Two youth members have participated in the German language classed and successfully completed the Basic Course.
Kick Boxing Classes
The Kick boxing classes are being taken place everyday morning. Around 25 students are taking training in this coaching classes.
German Interns
Every year we used to get two volunteers from CVJM to help us in various programs. During this reported period the two volunteers Ms.Johanna and Ms.Fransica have helped us to organise many programs. Especially for the programs like Volunteers programs, Youth Club programs, Hi_Y and Uni-Y programs, German language classes and Sub Regional YMCAs visits have been done in wonderful way with the help of German volunteers.
Conclusion
The Salem YMCA is grateful to God the Almighty for wonderfully guiding, sustaining and empowering us to effectively accomplishing the mission of the YMCA among its members and other sectors of the community.
We could never have done the programmes and activities without a team of leaders and members. In this juncture I would like to express my sincere thanks to our President Rev.Samuel Stephens, the vice president Mr.P.G.Manuel Stephens, the treasurer Mr.S.Nelson Jeyakumar, conveners of all committees, members of the Board, members and my colleagues for the support to the successful accomplishment of the task during the year. Our Membership
The YMCA is a people’s movement and the strength is our members. Through the YMCA members we made monumental differences in the community. Our Membership is open to all without any distinction of Caste, Colour, Creed or Gender. There are 1051 members on roll, of which 825 are Life Members and 226 are Annual Members. Our membership includes women and junior Members.
PROGRAMS
The year 2017-2018 started with new challenges and great vision and goals. God led us to accomplish our plans through our activities with human concern. This year Salem YMCA witnessed the all-round development of the Youth and Community and took the challenge of addressing the needs of the society at large. CARE (Community Action for Renewal and Education), RACE (Rehabilitation, Awareness, Counseling and Education) for the inmates of Salem Central Prison, Salem Female Sub Jail, Govt. Observation Home, WAVE (Wellbeing Activities and Value Education) for the people affected by Tsunami, working with the rural women by making them skilled, several awareness & Talent Development programs, Competitions and tournaments for youth and children and several programs for the spiritual growth are some of the major highlights of the year.
Overall Achievements
- Membership enrollment has been increased because of our activities. Especially the number of life members has been doubles because of our activities. Around 150 young people and adults are spending their leisure time useful in the YMCA through games and recreational activities. YMCA provides them very good opportunity, to grow, mentally, physically, and spiritually.
- Around 630 students have been participated and benefitted, out of our arts and cultural activities and competitions. 760 youth, have been benefitted, out of the Games and tournaments, conducted by Salem YMCA. We have made opportunity, to exhibit their talents, and encouraged them, by providing, prizes and certificates.
- Average of 35 boys, from government observation home, are given group counseling, personal counseling, training in drawing and painting, and talent development activities. The programs are arranged, to make them understand, the real meaning of life, and given hope to grow with positive attitudes.
- Around 900 prisoners have been benefitted, out of our, regular counseling and other programs at Salem Central prison. We are doing, Group Counseling, Personal Counseling, Awareness on health and hygiene, Medical camps, celebration of important festivals, prison staff training programs and family welfare programs. Through the programs in prisons we are able to give hope to the inmates to lead their life in positive way.
- Around 50 women have been benefitted out of regular skill training in tailoring and other programs at Salem female sub jail. By providing skill training the women in the prison are able to think their bright life after release.
- 80 children, are regularly taken care of, in their studies, at Koonimedukuppam village. Everyday evening students will gather at the YMCA community center, study their school lessons, and given some snacks. We have, three staff members, to take care of them.
- Around 300 women have been trained in tailoring through the skill training centers being organized in different villages. After the successful completion of the training, they are provided certificates. Some people will start their own tailoring centers and the others will go for garment factories for job. We are providing free sewing machines also for the poor trainees.
- Through special trainings the women groups are given more chances to raise their income to lead the life.
- Through awareness programs the village people are getting more information and positive attitudes to move forward.
- 150 persons got trained through our computer centers being organized at three different villages.
- 40 inmates are availing our home away from home facility, in the YMCA hostel. After the official work, YMCA hostel is giving, very good environment to take rest. Most of the hostellers would say that the YMCA is their second home.
- New YMCAs under Salem Sub Region, are being given periodical training & Guidance’s, and being motivated continuously, for getting affiliation, from National Council.
- 40 people have been trained in Music (Key Board and Guitar). 20 young people are being trained in Shuttle Badminton. 25 Students are being trained in Kick Boxing.
- The volunteers are getting experience through our programs and sharpen themselves to face the challenges in life.
- Around 35 people got benefitted through our Legal Aid Clinic. YMCA legal clinic gives good opportunity for the poor people by helping in their legal issues.
Through the Hi-Y and Uni-Y clubs, we are able to sharpen the talents, of the students and guide them to achieve their goal. Through moral stories, community games, songs and meaningful messages, we guide them to select the right path for their personal development. .
Christian Emphasis
Weekly Prayer Meeting
Every Saturdays the Youth group will gather at Salem YMCA for prayer meeting. We used to call this group as TENT (Teaching, Equipping, Nurturing, Transforming), here we share the good news by different activities, games, discussions, debate, question answers and Life stories. Since most of the participants are from Non-Christian background, we practice different methods to share the Good News indirectly. The participants are interestingly attending this program
Children Ministry Training Program Graduation
The training program for the people those who are involving in Children Ministries, came to an end with the Graduation ceremony organized on 1stApril 2017 at YMCA Hall. Pr.Senthil, Ammapet was the chief guest, he delivered a meaningful message and distributed the certificates for the trainees. The Candidates exhibited the materials prepared for the training and the guests turned around to have a look and congratulated the trainees for their real efforts. This program encouraged the trainees to precede the children ministry because this type of ministries among the children and youth are very necessary nowadays. Mr.A.James, Board Member chaired the program.
Pastors Conference 2017
Salem YMCA organized a pastor’s conference on “Contextualized Spirituality” at the Salem YMCA Mini Conference Hall on 21st September 2017. 86 Pastors from different parts of Salem have participated and benefitted out of this program. Rev.Fr.Daniel, Director, Don Bosco Care Home, Salem, Pr.Gloy Dhas, Chairman, YMCA Omalur, V.John Selvakumar, UESI Tamilnadu have been the resource persons and spoke on the theme. Rev.Benjamin, convener, Mission and Ecumenical Concerns Committee chaired the program and Rev.Rajah Daniel Stephens, Convener, Youth Work Committee has inaugurated the conference. This program really encouraged the pastors to get involved in the Social Works and taught how to face the challenges in ministry. The participants felt that many things discussed in that conference was an eye opener for them and understood the real way of doing God’s ministry as not only preaching and acting more than preaching.
YMCA / YWCA Week of Prayer and World Fellowship 2017
The World YMCA / YWCA Week of Prayer was observed by our YMCA from 12th – 18th November 2017 in the theme “Stand up, Speak up – Be the voice of voiceless”. The special programs organized during this week are as follows.
1. Inaugural Service
The Inaugural service was organized at the CSI Christ Church on 12th November 2017 at 8.30 am combined with their regular service. Rev.Fr.Vimal Dass, PRO, Periyar University, Salem was the special speaker and he delivered a message on the theme “Stand up and Speak up”. Rev.S.Miller Jayapaul, Presbyter, CSI Christ Church, Salem chaired the service. Dr.Mrs.Angeline Shakila, President of YWCA Salem, read the World YMCA / YWCA President’s message.
2. A Day with the Juvenile Children
We have celebrated the Children’s Day with the children of the observation home on 13th November 2017. We have explained the value of life with the help of Video Show, Magic Show and different Games. A special lunch was also arranged for the boys and staff members. 12 Students of observation have benefitted out of this program.
3. Annual Oratorical Contest for Rev.RajahD.Stephens Memorial Trophy
To commemorate the Children’s Day, an Oratorical Contest for Rev.RajahD.Stephens Memorial Trophy was organized on 14th November 2017 in our YMCA Hall at 10.00 am. 120 students from different schools of Salem have actively participated and given away their speaking talent in the topic “VOICE FOR THE VOICELESS” and the students those who came in first two places in each event got the awards and certificates. Cluny Matriculation H.S. School won the overall Trophy. Mr.R.Ramesh, Inspector of Matriculation Schools, Salem was the chief guest and he distributed the prizes and certificates for the winners. This program not only brought out the speaking talent of the children but made them understand the important of raising their voice for the voiceless people.
4. Cottage Prayer
The cottage prayer meeting was organized at the residence of Mrs.Geetha Kennedy, Principal, CSI Polytechnic College, Salem. Rev.D.Asir, Bethel Bible College was the guest speaker and he gave a meaningful message on the theme “I will put words in your mouth”. Mrs.Sheela Dinakaran, Professor, Govt. Arts College, Salem-8 chaired the meeting. Around 30 people participated and made use of that occasion to pray for the Voiceless People.
5. Valedictory Service
The valedictory service was organised at YWCA Salem on 17th November 2017 at 6.00 pm. Dr.Jones Ronald, Professor and HOD, Department of Nephrology, Vinayaka Missions Hi-Tech Hospital, Salem was the special speaker and he gave a message on the theme “The Power of Resistance”. Rev.C.Benjamin, Convener, Mission and Ecumenical Concern Committee, YMCA Salem chaired the meeting. Thus the Week of Prayer 2017 come to an end and it was requested the participants to pray and raise voice continuously for the voiceless people.
United Carol Service 2017
The United Carols is one of the unique activities of Salem YMCA. This year the United Carols-2017 was organized inside the YMCA campus on 1st December 2017 with different programmes by various Churches, Institutions and Organizations. Mr.A.Vijuvin IRTS, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Salem Division, Southern Railways was the chief guest and Rev.Fr.Christu Raja, Principal St.John’s National Academy and Parish Priest, St.Michael’s Church, Fairland, Salem has delivered special Christmas message. Rev.Samuel Stephens, President, YMCA chaired the programme. The programme was included carols by different Churches, Institutions, Schools and groups. It was also included quiz and prizes, and distribution of Christmas Cakes. This program really united different denomination of people to jointly celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Youth Work
Regular Programs
Youth Club: Every Tuesdays the Youth Club functions at Salem YMCA and regularly around 10 to 15 youth gathers to have different programs. Mr.Abraham, the coordinator, Mission and Youth programs is coordinating this program with the help of two German Volunteers Meike and Allissa. Different Community Games, Making Handicraft Items and thought provoking messages are the part of this Gathering
Volunteers Meet: Every month last Saturday the Volunteers gather at Salem YMCA and have different programs. We have around 25 volunteers and they will meet here, discuss on different issues and also have games and fun time. They are also continuously helping our programs being organized by the Salem YMCA inside the campus and outside.
District Level Open Fives Ball Badminton Tournament
Salem YMCA with the cooperation of Lakshmi Ammal Ball Badminton Club organized a District Level Invitation open fives Ball badminton tournament, on Sunday the 9th April 2017 in our campus. 18 teams from all over Salem District participated and exhibited their talents. Mr.Doraisamy, President, Salem District Ball Badminton Association was the chief guest and he distributed the prizes for the winners in the presence of Mr.Subramani, Secretary. This program really encouraged the upcoming players and paved a way to exhibit their talents.
Summer Camp 2017
This year the summer coaching camp courses have started on 24th April 2017 and the programs went up to 24th May 2017. Shuttle Badminton, Drawing & Painting, Chess, Table Tennis, Kick Boxing, Fencing and Computer Training were the events and 60 Students from the age 5th to 17th have participated and equipped their skills. Experts in different games and activities have handled the classes. Students have spent their leisure time very usefully by participating in this summer camps.
Special Programs for the Summer Camp Participants
Special training program on making Handicrafts, life coping skills and community games were organized for the participants of summer camp on all Saturdays during the summer camp from 24th April to 24th May 2017. The German volunteers Meike with local volunteers taught many community games and handicrafts. Through this program we made the students to understand many things like How to live disciplined life? How to obey their parents and teachers? How important to follow the rules and regulations? and much more.
Summer Camp Valedictory Function
The valedictory function of Summer Camp 2017 was organized on Wednesday, the 24th May 2017 at the YMCA Hall. Adv.Anandatheerthan, State Secretary, Hindustan Scouts and Guides was the chief guest and distributed the certificates and felicitated the participants and parents. The children and parents were very happy about the training because they felt that they could really spend their holidays very useful.
Volunteers Camp – 2017
We have organized a volunteers’ camp in the theme “Let Us Change” on Thursday the 21st September 2017 at Shalom Camp Site Yercaud to create an awareness about the volunteership and it was organized by our existing volunteers. A group of young people from USA also have participated in this camp. Rev.Rajah Daniel Stephens, Convener of Youth Work Committee has delivered the keynote address. The other session was handled by Mr.Ryan from USA. 98 People from different colleges have participated and understood the real meaning and need of volunteerism. Also it was a very good experience in organizing camps for our existing volunteers.
District Table Tennis Tournament – 2017
To encourage the table tennis players and also to make them a chance to exhibit their ability in table tennis game, Salem YMCA and Salem District Table Tennis Association jointly organized a district level Table Tennis Tournament on 23rd September 2017 at the YMCA Hall. 12 events have been conducted according to the age. The Office bearers of the Salem District Table Tennis Association were the guests and distributed the prizes and certificates for the winners. The selected players have been sent for the State level competitions. This tournament really encouraged the children and young people to come up.
Boxing and Kick Boxing Camp & Inter Club Boxing Competitions
Salem YMCA organized a Boxing and Kick Boxing Camp and Inter Club boxing competitions on 26th September 2017 at the YMCA campus. 87 Boys and 3 girls have participated in this camp and benefitted out of this camp. The winners of the competitions have been provided certificates and prizes. This camp created an awareness among the children about this art Boxing and put interest on them to join in learn this art. On behalf of Salem YMCA 8 boys and 3 girls have been selected for the National Level Selection trials to be conducted on 24th to 26th at Chennai and if selected they will perform in the National Level competitions to be organized from 21st to 23rd December at Orissa.
Inter School and College – Tamil Traditional Dance Competitions
To bring out the talents of school and college students in traditional dances and also to make awareness on Tamil Traditional Arts, Salem YMCA with the help of 7th Sense Trust organized an Inter School and College Tamil Traditional Dance competitions on 27th and 31st of October 2017 at the YMCA campus. It was included the different Tamil Cultural Dances like Baratha Natiyam, Karagattam, Thappattam, Kavadiattam, Poikal Kudiraiattam, Mayilattam, Silampattam, Kummiattam, Oilattam and Kolattam. The program was inaugurated by Mr.Shanmugavel, President of Builders Association, in the presence of Mr.Ilango from Weldon Groups. It was chaired by Mr.P.G.Manuel Stephens, Vice President. Around 170 students from different schools and colleges of Salem, Dharmapuri and Namakkal districts have actively participated and exhibited their talents. Final round of competitions and prizes distribution was held on 31st of October 2017. Salem YMCA Vice President Mr.P.G.Manuel Stephens, Treasurer Mr.S.Nelson Jayakumar, Board Members Mr.C.Gunaseelan and Mr.A.James have participated as guests and distributed the prizes and certificates for the winners. This program, as first time of its kind in Salem YMCA was very colorful and really encouraged the children and given a chance to exhibit their hidden talents.
25th State level Open Table Tennis Tournament
The Salem YMCA in co-operation with the Salem Round Table –28 organized the 25th Annual Open Table Tennis Tournament at the YMCA Hall on 4th and 5th November 2017. The Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association recognized this Tournament and more than 350 players from all over Tamil Nadu took part and given away their talents.
Prof.Dr.Y.Abraham, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Vinayaka Mission University, Salem and one of our board members has inaugurated the Tournament on 4th November 2017 in the presence of Tr.Amol Sancheti, Area Chairman, Area 7, SRT and Mrs.Nirmala Devi, District Inspector of Physical Education, Salem was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony on 5thNovember 2017. This annual event really encouraged the players to come up in various levels. SRT Members, parents, many more YMCA members and players actively participated in this programs.
District Level Open Doubles Ball Badminton Tournament
Salem YMCA organized a District Level open doubles Ball badminton tournament, on 11th and 12th November 2017 in our campus. 32 teams from all over Salem District participated and exhibited their talents. Mr.Doraisamy, President, Salem District Ball Badminton Association was the chief guest and he distributed the prizes for the winners in the presence of Mr.Subramani, Secretary. This tournament encouraged the upcoming players and paved a way to exhibit their talents.
Rev.Rajah D.Stephens memorial Shuttle Badminton Tournament
Salem YMCA organized a district level Rev.Rajah D.Stephens memorial shuttle badminton tournament on 30th December 2017 at the YMCA Campus. 22 teams from different clubs of Salem district took part in the tournament. Dr.A.Manickavasagam, Volley Ball Coach, Sports Authority of India, was the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony. Mr.N.Rajaram, Centre Incharge, Sports Authority of India was the chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony. Rev.Rajah Daniel Stephens, Convener, Youth Work committee chaired the function. Mr.Nelson Jeyakumar, Treasurer welcomed and felicitated the participants. Mettur team won the first prize of Rs.10,000/- and trophy, Salem team won the second prize of Rs.7,000/-.
Republic Day Annual Painting Contest 2018
Annual Painting Contest for School children is the one of the regular annual events and this year also we organized this Annual Painting Contest in a grand manner. Exactly 500 students from various schools have actively participated and given away their talents through their paintings. Students from LKG to XII standard were divided into fourteen groups and the first three places in each group have been awarded prizes and certificates. Mr.Sankar, Additional Superintendent of Salem Central Prison, was the Chief Guest distributed the prizes and certificates for the winners. All the participants have been provided participation certifictaes.
Felicitation for the Winners of State Boxing Tournament
Around 30 students are participating the Boxing Coaching classes at YMCA regularly. They have participated a State Level Tournament at Bengaluru in End of December 2017 and 12 boys from our trainees have won medals. A felicitation meeting was arranged at the YMCA on 1st Jan 2018 to encourage these boys. Mr.Ramesh Kumar, Salem Amechur Boxing Association was the chief guest and felicitated the winners and motivated other also to achieve more.
Volunteers Meet and Pongal Celebration
On January 13th we had our volunteers meet and Pongal Celebration with several programs. Around 68 volunteers participated and benefitted out of this program. The program was started with Bible Reading, followed by prayer. Lot of traditional games like Khabadi, Cock fight, Tug of war, Lemon and spoon, Pot breaking and slippery tree climbing have been organized and the volunteers enthusiastically participated in all these games. Then the winners were awarded prizes. We also cooked and served sweet Pongal. In the afternoon the General secretary explained the history of YMCA and its various programs and projects. Then the volunteers shared their experiences with YMCA, for example volleyball team and Orissa camp volunteers explained their experience. This gathering came an end with a pledge taken by all volunteers regarding following the traffic rules. Then everyone enjoyed the meals prepared by the volunteers and the program came to a successful end.
General Programs
Special Seminar
Salem YMCA organized a special seminar on the topic “Water Management”, on Tuesday the 4th April 2017 at the YMCA Hall to mark the 226th year of establishment of Salem District to create awareness on water management. Dr.V.Thirumurugan, Associate Professor, Department of Geology, Government Arts College, Salem was the special speaker and Mr.P.G.Manuel Stephens, Vice President of Salem YMCA chaired the program. Around 85 people including YMCA members and volunteers have participated and benefited out of this program. It was very informative and made the people understand the need of saving the water and different methods of managing it.
Inauguration of Skill Training Center at Kootathupatty
Since we have identified the need of starting a skill training at Kootathupatty, we found a place and set up a tailoring center to give training for the women in basic tailoring. The inauguration of the center was organized on 4thMay 2017. Ms.Marianne Clauss, Esslingen YMCA was the guest and inaugurated the center in the presence of local leaders. Mr.C.Gunaseelan, Board member participated and felicitated on behalf of Salem YMCA.
YMCA Program Centre - Ground Breaking Ceremony
The ground breaking ceremony of the Salem YMCA program Centre was organized on 16th June 2017 at the YMCA campus. We have organized a prayer meeting, Rev.Dr.Samuel D.Stephens, the president of Salem YMCA shared the good news and the objectives of the new project. He blessed and broke the ground and initiated the work. Board members and other members have participated and shared their good wishes.
Independence Day Flag Hoisting
To commemorate the India’s 71st Independence Day, the flag hoisting ceremony was organized at our YMCA campus on 15th August 2017 at 8.30 am. Rtn.P.Prabakaran, President, Rotary Club of Salem South was the chief guest and hoisted the National Flag and shared the Independence Day message in the presence of Rtn.Shivakumar, Assistant Governor. About 60 members including hostellers actively participated in this meaningful program.
Republic Day Flag Hoisting Ceremony
To commemorate the India’s 68th Republic Day, Salem YMCA organized the Flag Hoisting Ceremony on 26th January 2018 at the YMCA Campus. Mr.A.James, Board Member, YMCA Salem, and the District General Secretary(2018-2019), Rotary International District 2982 was the chief guest and hoisted the National Flag at 8.30 am and gave a special Republic day message. Our YMCA hostellers, members, students from various schools and parents actively participated in this celebration.
EXTENSION PRGRAMS
Under the effective guidance of the Convener Mr.P.G.Manuel Stephens, the extension work is going on well. The YMCAs under Salem Sub-Region are being given continuous guidance regarding their come up in registration, affiliation and programs.
Sub-Regional Volleyball Tournament.
To encourage the Sub Regional YMCAs, Salem YMCA conducted a volleyball Tournament for the YMCAs of Salem Sub Region on 28th September 2017 at the Salem YMCA Campus. 10 YMCA teams participated and exhibited their talents. Ms.Marianne from Esslingen YMCA participated as a special guest and encouraged the participants. Ayothiyapattanam YMCA lifted the winner’s trophy and Salem YMCA got the second place. The participants were very happy about this tournament and requested to conduct more programs like this.
PROJECTS
Regular programs in CARE - Community Action for Renewal and Education project, WAVE- Wellbeing Activities and Value Education, a project for the people affected by Tsunami, RACE-Rehabilitation, Awareness, Counselling, and Education, for the Central Prison, Female Prison, and Government observation home, Rural Women Empowerment project, are functioning well.

The Computer Centres functioning at 3 different villages and tailoring units functioning at different villages are functioning well with good participation.
International Women’s Day - Special Training on ‘Handicrafts’
We have celebrated the International Women’s Day with the participants of different skill training centers functioning at different villages on 9th March 2018. About 80 women have participated and benefitted out of this program. Mrs.N.Parimala Devi, District Social Welfare Officer, Salem was the chief guest and inaugurated the Celebration and Training program. Mrs.Rebecca Stanley, Convener, Women Empowerment and Gender Concerns committee chaired the program. We have contributed 5 sewing machines to 5 poor women trained through our skill centers function in different villages. It was also included a training program on “Handicrafts” handled by Mrs,Chittukala, a specialist in handicrafts and painting. We have also distributed the certificates for the participants those who have successfully completed the training in tailoring for 6 months.
Salem Prison Welfare Project
Independence Day Celebration at Salem Central Prison
We have celebrated the Independence Day at the Salem Central Prison on 15th August 2017 at 10.00 am. It was organized in a grand manner and it was included songs with music by the prisoners, Cultural programs by our volunteers, Anderson Schools and Christopher Matric School. Also, we have organized a debate to make them understand the merits and demerits of the technology developments in the title ‘இன்றைய தொலைத்தொடர்பு சாதனங்கள் சமுதாயத்தை சீர்படுத்துகின்றனவா? சீரழிக்கின்றதா?’. The program was chaired by the superintendent Ms.Andal.
- Through this program we could make them understand the merits and demerits of Technology Development.
- The prisoner’s talents have been sharpened and made them to exabit their talents.
- Made them understand the real potential they have and how they have to show their talents in positive way.
- Also made them realize the value of life.
- We could make them very happy on the Independence Day through our cultural programs.
Christmas Celebration at Salem Female Prison
We have celebrated the Christmas among the inmates of Salem Female prison on 20st December 2017 at 10 am. Ms.Aandal, Superintendent, Salem Central Prison chaired the program. Different Games and Lucky draw were organised and prizes have been distributed for the inmates and staff members. It was also included cultural program by our YMCA volunteers. We have also provided Christmas cakes and mementoes for the inmates and all the staff members.
Christmas Celebration at Observation Home
We have celebrated the Christmas with the boys of the observation home, Salem on 21.12.2017 at 11.00 am. Mrs.K.Vijaya, the superintendent of observation home chaired the program. Different community games have been conducted and educated the children ‘the value of life’. It was also included a special Video show telling the real meaning of Christmas. We have also distributed Christmas cake and special lunch for the inmates and staff members.

Christmas Celebration with The Tsunami Victims (WAVE Project)
We have celebrated the Christmas with Children of YMCA Child Care Centre at Koonimedukuppam on 16th December 2017 at 5.00 pm. Different varieties of sports and games have been conducted for them and prizes were distributed for the winners. The program was included meaningful message through Video Show, cultural programs by children, distribution of prizes for the winners of the competitions and distribution of Christmas cakes. Mr.P.G.Manuel Stephens, Vice President, Mr.S.Nelson Jayakumar, Treasurer, Mr.C.Gunaseelan, Board member have participated in this program as guests and made the program more meaningful.
In this program 80 children, parents and Committee Members actively participated. Local Pastor Rev.Moses Maridass, Our YMCA General Secretary Mr.Jose, staff Mr.Abraham local panchayat President, leaders and public witnessed this program.
Legal Aid Clinic
Legal Aid Clinic is Functioning at YMCA campus. It is a joint program by the YMCA and Salem District Legal Services Authority. Advocates from Judicial Department will give free Advice and Counseling for the poor people. It is Functioning on every Fridays 5 to 7 pm. In this reported year about 35 people have benefited out of this program.
Training Programs and Coaching Centres
Shuttle Badminton Coaching Classes
We are organising Shuttle badminton coaching for the school and college students. Mr.Balaji, a trained Shuttle Badminton coach is giving regular training from Monday to Saturday, 5 to 7 pm. Around 20 children are regularly participating and equipping themselves in Shuttle Badminton.
YMCA Music School
YMCA Music School functioning inside the YMCA campus is getting good response and currently 9 students are learning music through our centre. We are organising the classes weekly two days – Wednesday and Thursday evening. Mr.Ramachandran, Music Master, Sona College is handling the classes.
German Language Classes
Every Monday and Fridays the German volunteers conducting the German language classes. Two youth members have participated in the German language classed and successfully completed the Basic Course.
Kick Boxing Classes
The Kick boxing classes are being taken place everyday morning. Around 25 students are taking training in this coaching classes.
German Interns
Every year we used to get two volunteers from CVJM to help us in various programs. During this reported period the two volunteers Ms.Johanna and Ms.Fransica have helped us to organise many programs. Especially for the programs like Volunteers programs, Youth Club programs, Hi_Y and Uni-Y programs, German language classes and Sub Regional YMCAs visits have been done in wonderful way with the help of German volunteers.
Conclusion
The Salem YMCA is grateful to God the Almighty for wonderfully guiding, sustaining and empowering us to effectively accomplishing the mission of the YMCA among its members and other sectors of the community.
We could never have done the programmes and activities without a team of leaders and members. In this juncture I would like to express my sincere thanks to our President Rev.Samuel Stephens, the vice president Mr.P.G.Manuel Stephens, the treasurer Mr.S.Nelson Jeyakumar, conveners of all committees, members of the Board, members and my colleagues for the support to the successful accomplishment of the task during the year.
